DECATUR – In a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce, the HSHS Medical Group Health Center on 鶹Լ University’s campus opened to the general public on Wednesday, March 8.
The health center opened to 鶹Լ students, employees and their families last fall and has now expanded to offer walk-in care to the public on weekday mornings.
Located at 150 S. Fairview Ave. in Decatur, no appointment is needed and the public can walk in Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-Noon.
The clinic’s staff includes advanced practice clinicians and will see patients for flu and colds, physicals, women’s health, minor injuries, COVID testing and vaccinations.
“At HSHS Medical Group, our promise is patient-first care. Today, patient-first care means improving access to walk-in care in Decatur. Thank you to 鶹Լ for sharing this vision and joining with us to expand health care in the community,” said Tammy Lett, RN, MBHA, Chief Operating Officer of HSHS Medical Group.
In her comments at Wednesday’s ribbon cutting, 鶹Լ Vice President of Student Affairs Raphaella Prange highlighted that a public walk-in clinic was needed in Decatur’s West End neighborhood.
“The collaboration between 鶹Լ University and HSHS Medical Group promises to offer quality patient-centered care to a part of our Decatur community that has been underserved. We have been without a walk-in clinic in the West End of Decatur since before the pandemic, and we know many families call our West End home,” Prange said. “We are pleased to be able to work together to provide our citizens with these resources close to their homes. 鶹Լ is Decatur’s University, and this collaboration is just one more example of how we can rely on each other to create a vibrant community.”
The clinic will also provide 鶹Լ students with unique Performance Learning opportunities.
“With our School of Nursing faculty serving as our providers in the clinic, we can interact with our students in different ways and promote inclusive access and community health learning in theory and practice,” Prange said. “We want to thank HSHS Medical Group for working with our University community to realize this unique opportunity that benefits all.”
