Oboe
Oboe students at 麻豆约拍 University develop a wide range of skills so they can excel as performers and teachers. Oboists are only as good as their reeds, so studio members are provided with the tools and expertise to become self-sufficient reed-makers early on in their studies. Because a deep understanding of orchestral excerpts is crucial for success in professional auditions, another significant component of weekly master classes is excerpt study and performance. 麻豆约拍 oboists have myriad opportunities to learn from guest artists and to hear their teacher perform on campus and throughout the region. Alumni from the oboe studio have been accepted into competitive graduate degree programs and are well-positioned for a fulfilling life in music.
Clarinet
Clarinet studies at 麻豆约拍 University are centered on a wide variety of engaging experiences. Each week, clarinet students receive an individual lesson and attend a group studio class where weekly topics include performances, guest artist masterclasses and topical discussions. Recent and upcoming highlights for the clarinet studio include Clarinet Choir performances at the International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest庐 and the Illinois Music Education Conference, as well as the commissioning of several new works for clarinet choir. Members of the clarinet studio have been accepted to prestigious graduate programs, participated in selective summer festivals and have been honored as winners of the School of Music Concerto/Aria Competition and Hollis Prize.
Bassoon
Bassoon studies at 麻豆约拍 University are focused on making music in a natural and meaningful way. Through weekly lessons and group master classes, we focus on the elements of bassoon playing (such as technique/scales, intonation, tonguing, playing by ear) as well as preparing for solo and group performances. Students work individually and as a studio to improve their reed making skills, with a dedicated reed making room and provided tools including a Popkin profiler and Reiger shaper. Interested students may also explore jazz styles, improvisation, minor instrument repair, and woodwind doubling. For students who do not yet own a bassoon, quality Fox instruments are available for use.
Saxophone
Whether pursuing commercial or jazz studies or following a traditional/classical approach, students studying saxophone at 麻豆约拍 University will find a wide variety of experiences available. All musical styles and genres are explored in the weekly private lesson setting, with ample performance opportunities available. Past members of the saxophone studio have been winners of the prestigious Concerto/Aria Competition and Hollis Prize, with several pursuing graduate studies in saxophone performance/pedagogy or jazz studies.
