The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ University School of Theatre and Dance is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track position in Theatre History & Criticism to begin in August 2025.  Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is a small, private, comprehensive university of approximately 1800 students located in Decatur, Illinois.   The nationally recognized School of Theatre and Dance is a vibrant and highly visible component of the campus community serving 160 students in five-degree programs including a BA in Theatre and BFAs in Acting, Design and Production, Musical Theatre, and Stage Management.  The school is housed in a new $29 million facility, the Center for Theatre and Dance, which opened in 2020. Currently, this position is a visiting line which has been approved to move to a tenure-track position with this hire.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach courses in Play Analysis both beginning and advanced undergraduate levels.
  • Teach courses in Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, Performance Studies, and other topics such as Devising, Directing, and/or Theatre for Young Audiences as expertise allows. 
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of the School of Theatre & Dance and other theatre faculty.
  • Attend School of Theatre & Dance, College of Fine Arts, and full faculty meetings
  • University and School of Theatre & Dance service
  • Advise undergraduate students through curriculum and mentorship

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in Theatre
  • University level teaching experience
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in theatre history
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in dramatic literature, performance studies, and/or dramaturgy
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office communication tools such as Teams, Sharepoint, and Outlook

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching diverse student populations.
  • Teaching and collaborative practices related to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Access
  • Experience in teaching courses and leading student groups in BIPOC/GM topics.
  • Experience in Theatre for Young Audiences and Community Engagement.
  • Experience in Devising and/or Directing.
  • Intimacy Direction/Coaching at the university and/or professional level.
